I was just a wee lass in the Winter of 1978, so I don't really remember it being any more significant than any other storm.  My Father had died by that time and my Mother always had a way of calming us kids down, no matter what, so I remember HUMUNGO snow banks, but certainly no danger in our little house in Hollis.

According to the New England Historical Society, however, there are some surprising facts about the Blizzard of '78 that maybe you knew at the time and you've forgotten or you just never knew them to begin with.  The report gives 15, here are the 3 that I find most surprising:

1.  The snow took New England by surprise. No one advised people to stay home. Weather forecasters knew something was coming, they just didn’t know what.

2.   Snowdrifts trapped 3,000 cars and 500 trucks along eight miles of Rte. 128 alone. Fourteen people died of carbon monoxide poisoning while sitting in their snowbound vehicles.

3.  After the 1978 blizzard ended,  I remember t-shirts everywhere saying, "I survived the Blizzard of '78."  There's money to be made with absolutely everything.
