About 70 years ago, a guy had $1,000 to invest, and used it to buy a bunch of stock in Walgreens. According to the Chicago Tribune, he bought it because he knew there would always be sick people and women bought make-up there. Then the stock went through the roof, but he never sold it…so it's now worth about $2 million.

He never got married or had kids. So he never needed the money, and never even told anyone he had it…until recently, when he decided to donate all 28,000 shares to the Illinois Audubon Society. They used the money to set up a 395-acre wildlife refuge. And they dedicated it in his name on Sunday.

He was already planning to leave them the money in his will. But decided it would be more fun to actually see what they did with it.
