MANCHESTER, NH - Some West Side residents were evacuated from their homes this morning when a vehicle struck a building on Varney Street just after 5 am and ruptured a gas line.  Crews were called in to make repairs.

 

HAMPTON FALLS,N.H.(AP) - Police have arrested a man and a woman who barricaded themselves inside a Hampton Falls home.

36-year-old Darren Gragg and 32-year-old Melissa Amato, both o fHampton Falls, were arrested around 6:45 p.m. Tuesday at a house on Lafayette Road after police negotiated with them. They have been charged with burglary.

Authorities say the incident started with a report of a suspicious car in Amesbury,Mass.The suspects were wanted for questioning in an ongoing investigation.

Police shut down a section of Route 1 and called in a SWAT team after the two barricaded themselves inside the home for hours. The road was reopened later.

Graff and Amato will be arraigned in 10th Circuit Court in Seabrook today. Police say they could face additional charges.

 

WILTON,Maine(AP) - State police in Maine are investigating the stabbing of a woman whose car broke down on a remote road near the Wilton-Chesterville town line.

Spokesman Steve McCausland says the 33-year-old Readfield woman told troopers her car broke down Monday night on theMcCrillis Corner Roadand that a man in what appeared to be a white pickup truck stopped. She says the man assaulted her and she struggled with him before he fled.

McCausland says the woman was able to get her car started and drove herself to the hospital, where she was treated for a stab wound to her arm.

State police are seeking the public's help in finding the suspect described as 5-foot-10 with a slender build and a goatee. He was wearing a mad bomber hat.

 

 

 

 

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - New Hampshire's congressional delegation is asking the U.S. Department of Energy to provide details of alternative routes for a proposal to run electrical transmission lines from Canada to southern New Hampshire. The proposed Northern Pass would cost $1.4 billion and transmit 1,200 megawatts of hydroelectric power.

 

CONCORD,N.H.(AP) - A New Hampshire panel considering a wind power project has determined the application is incomplete and has sent it back to project backers for more information. Wild Meadows is a project of energy giant Iberdrola Renewables. The company wants to put 23 turbines in Danbury and Alexandria.
