A “Whimsical” Face Lift Could Soon Be Coming to Boston’s Faneuil Hall and Quincy Marketplace
When you think Faneuil Hall and Quincy Marketplace in Boston, is the first word that pops in your head 'whimsical?' If not, there is a group that wants to change that.
According to an Associated Press report, the New-York based real estate investment firm, 'Ashkenazy Acquisition Corp, wants to create an 'urban oasis' more appealing to residents and companies looking to venture into downtown Boston. (Ashkenazy Acqusition Corp, by the way holds the ground lease to Quincy Market since 2011.)
The EVP of Ashkenazy, Barry Lustig says quote, "We want to create something more whimsical," he said. "It needs to be a place where people just congregate. Where there's always something to do. Where everyone takes part in celebrating this public realm."
"Whimsical?" Are you serious? "Needs to be a place where people just congregate?" When have you NOT seen people congregate at Quincy Marketplace, Faneuil Hall or the North and South Markets?
Jugglers, bands, magicians, street performers, I've seen 'em all. With all the choices available to you, you're bound to find a sit down restaurant or a food vendor to satisfy your hunger. If you're looking for a 'BOSTON' sweatshirt or any other trinkets, I bet you can find it, including plush toy lobsters.
I can't tell you how many times my footwear has gotten stuck in those beautiful cobblestones that line the area. I may have scuffed several pairs of high heel shoes and boots in my day, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
There is something to be said for keeping some things the way they are. Yes, I understand things change, restaurants, vendors and street performers come and go. But, I for one, cannot imagine that section of Boston any different from the way it currently looks.
