If you've received a random phone call from a company claiming to be Unitil, and demanding payment...beware.

According to WMUR-TV, some customers have reported being contacted by a business claiming to be the utility company. Usually the scammer will demand a payment, typically with a pre-paid card, and threaten the customer’s service will be disconnected if the bill isn't paid.

Unitil officials tell WMUR the company is not making these calls. Any customers who are scheduled for disconnection would receive written notice from Unitil.

If you receive a call like this, do not pay them. Just hang up, call Unitil, and the police immediately.
