Robert Morin worked as a cataloger in the UNH library for almost 50 years. He graduated from the University himself in 1963, but no one had a clue that Robert was sitting on a fortune.

You can imagine the surprise when Robert passed in 2015 and $4 million dollars was donated to his long time employer and alma mater.

People are less than pleased with the way his donation was allocated. A total of $100,000 went to the Dimond library, which was the only specific spending request attached to his donation, according to InsideHigherEd.

Another $2.5 million went to an expanded career center. Here's where it gets a little controversial: one million dollars was spent on a video scoreboard for UNH's $25 million dollar football stadium.

People are outraged that Morin spent his career working in the Dimond library and most of his contribution went to athletics. Graduate Claire Cortese had a particularly angry blog post about how the donation was used.

The university tried to justify the purchase of the new scoreboard by claiming that Morin became a football fanatic while he was in an assisted living home during the last year and a half of his life. So clearly, that’s much more important than his life long passion of reading and literature, right? The university clearly seems to think that it makes sense for the sports department to receive ten times the amount that Morin’s own department is receiving, even after spending $25 million on a stadium renovation.

New Hampshire’s Faculty Senate has also been discussing the use of this man's donation.
