The New Hampshire Division of Historical Resources says the George E Burgess School/Notre Dame High building is significant both as a center of education and for its architecture.

The building was originally constructed in 1905, but was rebuilt after a fire in 1917. There were additions constructed in 1949 and in 1954. It is an example of an early 20th century urban public elementary school adapted and expanded for use as a Catholic high school and a convent until 1972.

The building is now used as a senior housing facility with 33 apartments and several common spaces.
