This is the kind of thing I like to see and is leaps and bounds more touching than most of the so-called "inspirational" stories, that usually turn out to be fake, cluttering your Facebook news feed.

Tucked into the Seacoast Online's coverage of the four-alarm fire that burned through the Portsmouth Gas Light Co. is a shining example of being a great local citizen. Other restaurants are offering to employ workers during the businesses' closure, and BRGR Bar is offering them free meals for the rest of the month.

This isn't some "like this post if you support feeding hungry children" or "look at me handing a homeless man a dollar" kind of thing for attention. This is a local business putting its money where its mouth is and lending a hand to somebody in need.

This is the story that needs to be shared on social media instead of the flood of nonsense and attention-seekers disguised as do-gooders. A competitor is reeling from a tragedy and what do these businesses do? Help the employees out in awesome ways.

Personally, I love BRGR Bar and Portsmouth Gas Light and hope others join in supporting the amazing local restaurant scene in New Hampshire, especially on The Seacoast. What makes our community great is the local destinations, the people who run them and the many others who support them.

Nicely done BRGR Bar. This will make me enjoy my next burger (and alcoholic milkshake) that much more when I visit you next.

***UPDATE: Looks like the Seacoast Repertory Theater is joining the effort to support the Gas Light employees.

Portsmouth Gas Light Co. food fueled our recovery in a lot of ways, so we're going to try to return the favor. Until the...
