Director and screen-writer Robert Eggers' first feature film, The Witch, drew high praise at The Sundance film last year and opened nationally. Did you know he grew up in New Hampshire?

Eggers resides in Brooklyn these days but grew up in Lee, NH!  The Oyster River grad speaks highly of his upbringing in small town New Hampshire as an inspiration, and the woods throughout the area in particular. According to Indiewire.com, he very much hoped to film The Witch in his home state but it just wasn't meant to be.

Set in New England, the movie was reluctantly filmed in Canada on account of tax incentives that were too good to refuse. The horror movie earned $8.7 million at the box office in its opening weekend and looks intensely scary.

The R-rated movie can be seen at Cinemagic, Regal and O'Neill cinemas locally.
