The lyric is well known, "I love that dirty water, ooooh Boston you're my home" and the Charles River is the focus as to which brewery can make the tastiest suds from river water.  I've heard of clear, clean mountain water being used for brewing, but river water?

I think that beer is cloudy on purpose?

The breweries taking part are Castle Island Brewing Co., Samuel Adams,Ipswich Ale Brewery, Idle Hands Craft Ales, Cape Ann Brewing Company/The Pub at Cape Ann Brewing, and Harpoon Brewery.

The Charles River is a great place to swim and boat.  We all know what happens when people are in large bodies of water, you know so I'm not gonna say it here.  It happens.  So, what is done to protect the beer and it's drinkers?

Desalitech Corporation cleans the water for beer production so all the breweries get the same, clean water.

Desalitech pulled about 4,000 gallons of water from the river and treated it in one of its reverse osmosis systems.
