Dog Chews Off Own Foot in Horrible Case of Animal Cruelty

Any case of animal cruelty makes me sick, but Maverick's story had me in tears.

Maverick is currently at the MSPCA's  Angell Animal Medical Center awaiting surgery, after chewing off one of his paws in a severe case of animal cruelty. Alyssa Krieger from the MSPCA says she thinks the 2-year-old German Shepard was trapped for at least a full day. When he was found he was also emaciated and his body was covered in scars.

Krieger says:
“I’ve been working here for 6 and a half years … this is the most disturbing thing I’ve ever seen. Just clear-cut, horrible abuse.”

According to an article from WBZ in Boston, the now former owner of the dog is facing charges. Once Maverick recovers from his operation, he will be put up for adoption.
