Both employees and customers were stunned to find the doors locked yesterday at dozens of New England area Papa Gino's restaurants.

Papa Gino's, which is based in Dedham, Massachusetts abruptly closed dozens of locations throughout New England Sunday, including some here in New Hampshire. The pizza chain first began back in 1961 and started off with the name 'Piece O' Pizza.' The initial location was East Boston.

According to WMUR, those closed in New Hampshire include, Portsmouth, Nashua and Manchester.

Several D'Angelo's restaurant locations which are owned by the same company as Papa Gino's were shut down, without warning yesterday as well.

I have many fond memories of Papa Gino's. When I was a kid, I had one of the best birthday parties at the Papa Gino's in my hometown. All my friends came and watched as I got to make our pizzas!
