(Concord, NH) -  As Hurricane Joaquin continues to cause problems in the Bahamas,  U.S. officials are urging residents along the east coast to be prepared for the possibility of damaging winds and rain.

Joaquin is currently a Category 4 storm, and may weaken over the next day or so. Storm tracks now show chances are less likely for direct hit on the U.S. coast, but New England could still experience strong winds and heavy rain.

According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Hurricanes can cause loss of life and catastrophic damage to property along coastlines and can extend several hundred miles inland. The extent of damage varies according to the size and wind intensity of the storm, the amount and duration of rainfall, the path of the storm, and other factors such as the number and type of buildings in the area, the terrain, and soil conditions.

You need to prepare your family, your home, your pets, your neighbors and yourself at this time!
