Joan Benoit Samuelson from Freeport, Maine is a marathon legend! Back in 1979, she set a women's course record at the Boston marathon with a time of 2:35:15.

Joan knew she wanted to run the marathon again 40 years after her record time. She made a goal for herself that she felt was realistic. She would be happy if she completed the course within 40 minutes of her winning time. Joan surpassed her own expectations clocking in at 3:04 even! For those of us who aren't mathematicians, she completed the course within 30 minutes of her winning time. Joan rocked a Bowdoin College singlet as she crossed the finish line, similar to the one she wore in 1979.

It doesn't matter if she's 21 or 61, Joan is a phenomenal athlete and an inspiration to all. Congratulations, Joan!
