There are six pairs of piping plovers nesting along the sandy shores in Hampton and Seabrook.  These rare birds are endangered in New Hampshire and threatened nationally.

Their breeding habitat has been fenced with yellow roping to indicate the birds presence, and beach-goers are asked to stay away from those areas to allow for the nesting and raising of the young chicks.

Since 1997, 113 nesting pairs of plovers have fledged 147 chicks along the NH coast.
