Whatever happened to some good old fashioned elbow grease when it comes to preparing food in the kitchen?

We just kicked off our Spring Auction, which includes $43,500 towards a kitchen remodel from Cyr Kitchen & Bath Home Design Center among other great deals up for bid next week.

This inspired me to look up some of the weirdest kitchen gadgets that are clever, but seem a tad bit unnecessary. The results show that humanity is working incredibly hard to become extremely lazy.

I can cut my own strawberries, peel my own apples and mix my own glasses of chocolate milk. There is no need to make the "perfect-looking" anything because it will just get eaten and forgotten within minutes.

Here are some of the craziest ones I found from As Seen on TV:

    Moo Mixer

"Just add milk, chocolate and imagination!"

So just using a spoon to mix my chocolate is not good enough anymore? I need my cup to the work for me? People say kids these days are lazy, but this invention was obviously created by the laziest grown adult imaginable. Have fun supplying this bad boy with a steady stream of AA batteries, which are not included. (PRICE: $14.99)

    Apple Pro-Peeler

"The Apple Pro-Peeler removes the drudgery from peeling apples"

This contraption looks way more complicated than just grabbing a knife and peeling away. This Rube Goldberg-esque device looks effective, but incredibly unnecessary. I also see it actually working about 30 percent of the time. (PRICE: $19.95)

    Speedy Slicer

    "Perfect, even slices every time."

I don't need to have mathematically even slices of anything. A nice, sharp knife and a steady hand will always do the trick. If we never learn to cut things properly, how can we hope to cut anything when the zombie apocalypse comes? (PRICE: $9.95)

    Rapid Ramen Cooker

"Rapid Ramen makes noodles in half the time!"

Ramen is already the easiest and quickest possible meal. You throw the noodles in water, add spice and eat them. It only takes three minutes and I don't think I will miss the extra minute of time this device would save me. A tad bit overkill for such a simple dish. (PRICE: $9.95)

    Microwave Splatter Shield

"Keeps your microwave clean and puts an end to messy clean ups. "

Two words: PAPER. TOWEL. (PRICE: $7.95)

    Pancake Machine

"Making pancakes has never been easier!"

My pancakes don't need to be perfectly round. In fact, I like to have my breakfast be a reflection of myself: flawed yet wonderfully tasty. Part of the fun of making pancakes is the giant mess it takes to make them. (PRICE: $24.95)

    Mr. Lid Storage Containers

    "The Lid Is Always Attached!"

Everyone tries to improve food storage, but this seems like the laziest effort yet. Just keep your lids next to your containers people. I love how it boasts having a "parented attached lid design." I am not impressed by your ability to attach a plastic lid to a plastic container. (PRICE: $10.95)
