Jason Aldean Talks ‘Old Boots,’ Obsessing Over Songs and More [Listen]

Jason Aldean‘s exciting ‘Old Boots, New Dirt’ album impacted Tuesday (Oct. 7), and the ‘Burnin’ It Down’ hitmaker couldn’t wait to chat about it. He stopped by the Taste of Country Nights studio to dish on the release, how it came to fruition and why he’s a self-proclaimed “song Nazi.”

Aldean now has over 21 million downloads under his belt — quite the accomplishment, to say the least. He stays humble, however, even joking to ToC Nights host Sam Alex that this album could make him even more humble if it’s a flop.

“Well, we got a new album coming out so if it doesn’t do well it’ll be humbling, I promise,” Aldean admits, laughing. “We’re excited. It’s great to have new music coming out and obviously things have been going really well for us over the last few years.”

‘Old Boots, New Dirt’ includes at least one song that’s based on reality. ‘If My Truck Could Talk’ is the true story about Aldean’s pickup truck.

“I had a ’94 pickup truck when I turned about 16 or 17,” the singer shares. I” had about 150,000 miles on it and it definitely has some good stories. I hope somebody runs it off a cliff.”

When Alex recently caught up with Justin Moore, the ‘Lettin’ the Night Roll’ singer wondered what it takes to get a song on Aldean’s album — or what it takes to open for him on tour.

“I’m pretty hard on songs, there’s this kind of thing that we do that it’s hard to find,” Aldean says. “We listen to hundreds and hundreds of songs to narrow it down to 15 for the album, so I’m a song Nazi.”

As far as the tour is concerned, Aldean knows Moore doesn’t really need his help like he claims.

“We always look for guys that are just sort of getting started, just sort of the up-and-comers that we think are going to have a huge year next year,” he reveals. “Justin is out doing his own shows kind of headlining his own stuff. He doesn’t need me to help him out.”

‘Old Boots, New Dirt’ is available now on iTunes.

Sam Alex is the host of Taste of Country Nights radio, a syndicated night show which airs on more than 60 Townsquare Media Group stations nationwide.
