For anyone following developments in the story of the Keene Pumpkin Festival, the latest headline contains a very interesting twist.

Judge Edward J. Burke has offered those found guilty of disorderly conduct the opportunity to reduce the fines they will pay if they agree to speak to elementary classes about the lesson learned from the whole experience. According to The Keene Sentinel, the fine will be reduced from $1000 to $200.

I'm impressed with the judges creativity and willingness to try something new. The defendants save money by sharing their experiences with the kids in the classes who will hopefully learn firsthand from having the people making the headlines standing right in front of them.
