The controversy centers around a need (or lack thereof) to erase the appearance of a rodent.

Many moviegoers agree The Departed is a pretty epic flick. Even if you haven't lived in Boston, it's pretty neat to watch a movie with geography you're familiar with. Plus, most know the storyline is loosely based on that of James Bulger. The 2006 film, directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon and Jack Nicholson, is all about characters uncovering a "rat."

Adam Sacks, a video director and editor, the film has one huge problem. The final shot has an actual rat crawls into frame. That's a hard "no" for Sacks, and he's attempting to change it. He told NECN "It's a very on the nose metaphor and it's completely unnecessary because the movie already worked." Essentially, WE KNOW...WE GET IT.

Sacks has started a Kickstarter, and needs $4,000 to complete the project. He's nearly 3/4 of the way there. Telling NECN "Basically, I just need money to be able to buy a Blu-ray of the movie, and a Blu-ray player, because I don't have one. And then I need to be able to rip it, and hire a friend of mine to digitally erase it."
