Athol police department has named their new K-9 dog after Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski. The one-year-old German Shepherd, who goes by Gronk for short (duh), is currently undergoing a 14-week training program.

According to Recorder.com, Police Chief Russell Kleber said his department has not had a K-9 for seven or eight years.

Gronk will be used for tracking missing people, suspects and criminals, detecting drugs and serving as the furry public face of the department during police demonstrations.

It was Gronk's visit to the town's subway back in February that inspired Office Kleber to name the new K-9 Gronk. And the sandwich Gronk ordered that day is now called "The Big Subkowski" on the menu.

We New Englanders just love our Gronk! :)
