This is Rey. She's a twenty-one week-old German Sheppard. And she's the latest...and the youngest...police officer on the Farmington Police Department.

Rey came to the department from a breeder in Connecticut. Her handler, Sgt. Driscoll, says the intent is to take Rey's natural inquisitiveness and intelligence, and turn her into a top-notch K9 officer. A lot of that depends on their chemistry, and how she responds to the ongoing training.

Police Chief John Drury told me that the department hopes Rey will aid in search and rescue missions, sniff out drugs, and be an ambassador for the Farmington PD. She is the third K9 the department has had over the years.

And while she may not be ready to bust hardened criminals just yet...she sure knows how to capture hearts.
