A recent dispute has resulted in temporary closure

WMUR is reporting that the American Police Motorcycle Museum in Meredith will be closing it's doors by the beginning of next week.

The reason for the sudden closing stems from a long-standing debate that the museum has had with it's next door neighbor, Mayhew Funeral Home and Crematorium.

The owner of the museum, Douglas Frederick, has stated that the crematorium has blown human ashes on to their property for some time now (a problem that the Mayhew Funeral Home has denied.)

In June, the funeral home filed suit against the museum citing false claims.  They also requested a restraining order against Mr. Frederick.

The whole thing is disappointing to me.  Regardless of what is going on between the funeral home and the museum- I really wanted to make it up there to visit the museum.

As the owner of a Harley Davidson Road King Police Bike (formerly a Marblehead MA Patrol Bike, pictured below) I was really excited to take the bike up there for a visit.

The good news is that the museum says they hope to relocate and open in time for the 2017 season.  A statement on their website reads:

It is with sadness that we announce the closing of our motorcycle museum in Meredith, New Hampshire on 7-18-16.  This has been a life long dream of mine to honor police officers that rode the primitive motors of old and to bring their history to the general public. Our greatest satisfaction has come from the public who leave our museum with a greater understanding and renewed pride towards those that protect and serve.

We hope to have a new location in place for the start of the 2017 New England motorcycle season. Please always remember to be respectful and understanding of our police officers today as they are facing situations that we have not seen since the late sixties and seventies.

Best of luck to both parties.  Hopefully the relocation will be successful for everyone.  I look forward to the grand (re) opening in 2017!
