(Rochester, NH) - A Rochester resident found a World War 2 era mortar shell while cleaning a shed Thursday morning.

Police were called to the home on Lowell Street when the resident discovered what he believed to be an explosive device.

The State Police Bomb Squad x-rayed the device and determined it had been demilitarized.

The 60-MM shell is believed to have belonged to a family member who had served in the military.
