UPDATE: According to WMTW, as of 11 p.m. 20 people were reported dead and dozens more were injured. Also, as of 11 p.m., a Facebook post from Lewiston Police Department has named Robert Card a "person of interest" in connection with the shooting and is considered "armed and dangerous."

Multiple agencies responded to an active shooter situation late Wednesday evening, October 25.

The Maine Department of Public Safety put out on social media around 8 p.m. Wednesday an alert informing the public of the situation:

"There is an active shooter situation in the city of Lewiston. Law enforcement is asking people to shelter in place. Please stay inside your home with the doors locked. Law enforcement is currently investigating at two locations right now. Again please stay off the streets and allow law enforcement to diffuse the situation. If you see any suspicious activity or individuals please call 911. Updates to follow."

The Sun Journal reported multiple people were shot and/or wounded in two apparent incidents in Lewiston. Police told reporters that there was a large response of police and fire to the Sparetime Recreation Bowling Alley at about 7:15 p.m. The police were responding to the bowling alley following reports of an active shooter.

Minutes later, police were called to reports of an active shooter situation at Schemengees Bar and Grille Restaurant, which is located in Lewiston on Lincoln Street, the Sun Journal stated.

Police confirmed to the Sun Journal that multiple people were shot at both scenes.

Central Maine Medical Center put out on its website and social media around 9 p.m. that it was responding to the situation but did not have a number of casualties at the time.

Lewiston police released on Facebook photos of the suspect at the bowling alley, as well as posts about attempting to locate Robert Card as a "person of interest regarding the mass shooting at Schemengees Bar and Sparetime Recreation this evening."

They have also posted a photo of a white Subaru to be on the lookout for.

Card is considered armed and dangerous, according to the Lewiston police, and has not been caught.

Maine Governor Janet Mills said in a post on X, formerly Twitter, that she has been briefed and "urge all people in the area to follow the direction of State and local enforcement."
