Merkel on shootdown
German Chancellor Angela Merkel says any "further escalation" needs to be avoided after Turkey shot down a Russian fighter jet it said was in its territory. She tells parliament the incident "has further aggravated the situation in Syria." Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin says a second pilot from the plane has been rescued and taken to a Russian air base in Syria. The other pilot was killed.
Sanders will be on ballot
Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders will appear on New Hampshire's Democratic presidential primary ballot. The state's Ballot Law Commission unanimously supported Sanders' eligibility yesterday following a challenge based on his longtime status as an Independent.
Judge clears way
A judge has cleared the way for a woman with late-stage lung cancer to buy medical marijuana in Maine before dispensaries open in New Hampshire. New Hampshire didn't plan to issue identification cards to medical marijuana users until dispensaries open next year, but Linda Horan says she may be dead before then. The retired telephone worker from Alstead sued the state this month.
