Court appearance in church attack plot
Two men are scheduled to appear in federal court in Richmond, Virginia, today for allegedly trying to buy weapons for attacks on synagogues and black churches. An FBI affidavit says Robert C. Doyle and Ronald Beasley Chaney III tried to buy an automatic weapon, explosives and a pistol with a silencer from three undercover agents posing as illegal firearms dealers.

Smarter Balanced Assessment test results due Thursday
The New Hampshire Department of Education is releasing the first batch of results for the new Smarter Balanced Assessment test. State and federal law requires schools to administer a test every year in grades 3 through 8 and again in high school, typically in 11th grade. New Hampshire schools began implementing the Smarter Balanced Assessment this year, a test aligned with the federal Common Core education standards. Education officials say the results, which will be released Thursday, establish a new baseline for academic progress and should not be compared with results from previous tests.

Dartmouth, ex-employee settle wrongful termination suit
Dartmouth College has settled a lawsuit in which a former assistant lacrosse coach claimed she was wrongfully terminated after missing weeks of work in the wake of her father's death. Tracy Coyne filed a notice in federal court last month indicating that she struck a deal with the college. Coyne's suit alleged the school wrongfully terminated her and caused her mental and emotional distress. She worked as assistance coach from August 2013 to January 2014. The suit says Coyne's father got sick and passed away in January, around the time she was set to return after Christmas 2013 break. Coyne claims that she returned to Hanover on Jan. 29, 2014 and was fired the following day.
Details of the settlement weren't immediately available.
