Bridge closed
The Sarah Mildred Long Bridge is currently closed to vehicular traffic after it malfunctioned this weekend. NH DOT officials say the bridge, which connects Portsmouth and Kittery via the Route 1 Bypass was stuck in the down position. Bridge operators were able to lift the span Sunday evening to allow boats through, however, the operators were unable to return it to the down position. The bridge is closed until further notice and detours are in place.
