Wildfire fire evacuations in Sierra Nevada
Evacuations remain in effect along the eastern slope of California's Sierra Nevada after a wind-swept wildfire destroyed 40 homes and buildings. The blaze is now 75 percent contained, but not before burning 11 square miles in the town of Swall Meadows and nearby Paradise, forcing some 250 residents to leave. The fire started Friday afternoon.

Another round of snow
Hundreds of schools and other programs across New Hampshire have been canceled for today because of the winter storm. Air travel is also being affected, with some flights delayed through Manchester's airport. New Hampshire's emergency operations center has been activated this morning.

No injuries in hours long standoff
There were no injuries in a seven-hour hostage standoff involving police in Bangor. Police say a gunman held two people captive with shots fired as police approached the building. The two hostages were able to get away, with Nicholas Condon eventually surrendering and facing multiple charges.
