The main event in Las Vegas tonight: The fifth Republican presidential debate. Texas Sen. Ted Cruz comes in with a burst of momentum, a robust campaign infrastructure, and a target on his back as he challenges Donald Trump for the lead in Iowa.

Eversource says customers will pay less this winter
The state's largest utility says customers will pay 5 percent less for energy this winter, compared to last year. Eversource says it has asked state regulators to adjust its energy charge to 9.99 cents per kilowatt hour, as of January 1st, 2016.

Pilot program released from Dept. of Education
The state Department of Education has released the first results of a pilot program aimed at reducing standardized testing while providing more meaningful feedback. Under the two-year pilot program, students in four districts are taking statewide tests in three grades instead of seven. In between, districts administer locally developed performance assessments, which ask students to apply what they have learned.
