The House transportation committee is scheduled to take up increasing rail safety concerns today, underscored by the recent fatal Amtrak crash in Philadelphia. One key question is why available technology to automatically slow trains wasn't in place on the 50 mph curve where the train derailed while traveling at 106 mph. Tragedy in Epping
Police say a 2-year-old boy has died after he was found floating in a backyard pool in Epping. Police say the boy was found in the pool yesterday morning. Rescuers performed CPR and took him to a hospital, where he later was pronounced dead. His name has not been released.

Maine Governor to hold Town Hall meeting
Governor Paul LePage is scheduled to hold a town hall meeting this evening in Lisbon to discuss his tax overhaul plan. The Republican governor has been traveling the state to tout his ambitious plan to raise and expand the sales tax to pay for a massive income tax cut. His proposal has gained little traction in the Legislature. He even acknowledged last week that his plan is "dead."
