April jobs report today
Jobs data being announced today by the Labor Department could shed more light on the question of whether the weak first quarter was due to temporary factors or not. Economists surveyed by FactSet predict job growth was much improved in April, adding 222,500 positions, compared to 126,000 in March. The unemployment rate is also expected to go down to 5.4 percent from 5.5 in March.

Motorcyclist dies in crash
Police say a motorcyclist has died after crashing in Goffstown. Authorities say the man died early this morning at the Elliot Hospital in Manchester. His name has not been released pending notification of family. The cause of the crash was under investigation; police believe speed may have been a factor.

Police identify bicyclist killed in hit-and-run
Police say a bicyclist has been struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver in Rochester, New Hampshire. Police say 51-year-old Jeffrey Howarth of Rochester was hit at about 12:30 a.m. Thursday on Route 11 in the area of the on-ramp to Route 16. They found him dead on the shoulder of the road beside a guardrail, with his damaged bicycle nearby. There was debris scattered along the on-ramp from the vehicle. Police said they found the car later Thursday. No arrests have been made. Authorities are asking anyone who was in the area at the time or who may have information about what happened to contact the police.
