Power restored in South Carolina
Power has been restored to thousands of residents drying out after torrential rains and flooding throughout South Carolina. South Carolina Electric and Gas says that less than 1,000 residents are still without power this morning. Hundreds of roads and bridges remain closed in the state as engineers work to determine the safety of many thoroughfares after historic flooding. A 90-mile stretch of Interstate 95 is also closed.

Ayotte expects a spirited campaign
Republican Senator Kelly Ayotte says she expects a spirited campaign after Democratic Governor Maggie Hassan's announcement she will challenge Ayotte next year. Yesterday's announcement paves the way for what many expect to be a close, and expensive, race for possible control of the Senate.

Jaws of life used to help child stuck in tree
It took some improvising for firefighters in Manchester to free a child who got stuck between two branches up a tree last night. Firefighters tried lifting the 9-year-old straight up but that was hurting the youngster. They used the jaws of life to spread out the two large tree sections he was wedged in and then got him free.
