Hassan calls for investigation
New Hampshire's governor is calling for a full investigation into the use of force by police after video surfaced of officers appearing to pummel a suspect who had led them on a high-speed chase from Massachusetts to New Hampshire. News helicopter video of the police pursuit Wednesday showed Richard Simone stepping slowly out of his truck, kneeling and putting his hands on the ground before several officers rushed him in Nashua, New Hampshire.

Bridge malfunction
A malfunction during a lift opening on the Sarah Mildred Long Bridge in Portsmouth was to blame for a 2-hour closure of the bridge that passes over the Piscataqua River into Maine. State Department of Transportation spokesman Bill Boynton says a span lock on the bridge malfunctioned Wednesday during a 5 p.m. lift opening.
