According to the "National Day Calendar," January 16, 2015 is  'Fig Newton Day.' For those of you who are fans of "The Big Bang Theory," you'll remember this gem! By the way, it's one of my favorite scenes from this show. Makes me giggle every time.

You read that correctly, Mark Ericson was in the WMUR kitchen to promote the upcoming "Penguin Plunge" weekend to benefit Special Olympics of New Hampshire. Check out the video, Mark takes over WMUR's kitchen with Meteorologist Kevin Skarupa and his adorable son, Levi.

Europe's stepped up anti-terrorism activities resulted in the arrests of more than two dozen suspects in three countries today. Thirteen people were detained in Belgium and two arrested in France in an anti-terror sweep following a firefight in Belgium in which two suspected terrorists were killed. French and German authorities arrested at least 14 other people today.

Police soon may be able to administer an injection to treat overdoses
Police officers may soon be able to administer an emergency intranasal injection to treat heroin and opioid overdoses. The New Hampshire Emergency Medical and Trauma Services Coordinating Board is hearing a proposal that would create a licensing program for police officers to carry Naloxone treatment kits. A legislative rules committee must approve the new licensing structure.

Anonymous donor gives one million dollars
Anonymous donor has given more than $1 million to the University of Maine at Augusta's capital campaign.Interim President Glenn Cummings said Thursday that the donor understands the vital role the university serves in the lives of working Maine residents. A university spokeswoman says the donor lives in Maine but is not an alumnus.
