2 dead on Japanese bullet train
Officials and media reports say two people are dead after a man set himself on fire aboard one of Japan's high-speed bullet trains. Officials say the man who lit the fire and a female passenger were killed as the coach filled with smoke. At least nine others were injured, one seriously, mostly from smoke inhalation.

State's Medicaid billing systems gets certification
The state's long-delayed Medicaid billing system has finally received certification from the federal government. This means the state will be eligible for several years' worth of back payments in federal money. Officials from Norwalk, Connecticut-based Xerox plan to release information about the certification today. The company built and runs the system.

Maine lawmakers to decide whether to overturn Governor's veto of state budget
Lawmakers are heading back to Augusta to decide whether to overturn Governor Paul LePage's veto of the $6.7 billion state budget. When the Legislature reconvenes today, it will have less than 24 hours to pass the measure into law over the Republican governor's objections in order to prevent a government shutdown. A spending plan must be in place by midnight.
