Pistorius is free
South African Olympic runner Oscar Pistorius has gone from behind bars to his uncle's upscale home near Pretoria. The 28-year-old double-amputee has been released from prison, after serving about a year of his five-year sentence for manslaughter in the shooting death of girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. South African law allows Pistorius to serve the remainder of his sentence in house arrest.

Canada's new prime minister
Canada has a new prime minister. He's Justin Trudeau, the 43-year-old son of the late Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau. Justin Trudeau's Liberal party won most of the 338 votes in parliament, removing Conservative Stephen Harper from office following his 10 years of leadership.

Meeting today on Police Chief's status 
Portsmouth's police commission today takes up the status of Police Chief Stephen DuBois. The commission consideration comes after city council decided not to consider a proposed deal that would have given DuBois six months severance so long as he resigned November first.
