Still negotiating in Sydney
Police in Sydney, Australia, say negotiators are talking with a gunman who has been holding an unknown number of hostages inside a cafe. Five people have managed to escape. Police say they don't know the gunman's motive. But two people inside were seen holding up a black flag with the Islamic declaration of faith written on it.

Gas Prices Drop
Gas prices took a huge tumble over the past week. NH motorists this morning are paying an average price of $2.67 for a gallon of regular, 9 cents lower than last Monday morning. Prices in Maine dropped 11 cents a gallon to an average price of $2.70. In Massachusetts, it’s $2.71 and in Vermont, it’s $2.89. Gasbuddy.com reports the national average price has dropped 13 cents in the past week to $2.53 a gallon.The lowest price posted in NH was $2.45 a gallon in Windham.

Inmate at Cumberland County Jail Dies
Authorities say an inmate found unconscious in his cell at Cumberland County Jail in Portland had died. A corrections officer doing a security check found 33-year-old Miles Hartford of Leeds unconscious just after 9 p.m. yesterday. He was pronounced dead after efforts to revive him failed.
