It is National Toilet Paper Day.  This is supposedly the day the first roll of toilet paper was sold commercially in 1871.

My source is Wikipedia for facts about the product that most of us take for granted and shudder at the thought of living without.  What did the Game of Thrones gang use on their thrones???

Joseph Gayetty came up with flat packages of TP in 1857 and in 1883 Seth Wheeler of Albany New York patented rolled paper and the dispenser.

The United States is the largest exporter of toilet paper and our friends to the north in Canada import the most.

7 BILLION rolls are sold in the U.S. annually  Georgia Pacific said on their website that they produce enough tissue to wrap around the Earth's equator 1 1/2 times EVERY DAY.

One last factoid, the U. S. Army used toilet paper to camoflague tanks during  Operation Desert Storm.

I am thankfull I grew up in the toilet paper era (as for the alternatives fill in your own joke) and that the worse thing is the eternal debate of over/under when putting the roll on the dispenser.
