As Brad Paisley once sang, "welcome to the future". It seems like a common occurrence that things we once though were fantasy are now real and becoming commonplace. A case in point is the new translator app for the Apple watch.

I had to Google it, but on the original Star Trek show, they had a device that let people understand each other's languages. The IHG Translator App will be available at the end of April and will convert what it hears to a written translation of the phrase.

I'd like to see an app that will convert dialects. In New England alone we have local celebrities made famous by their home state's accents even if they are a bit exaggerated. Fritz Weatherbee can teach you how to "speak New Hampsha". Tim Sample 's career is based upon the speech patterns of a classic Mainer.   Maybe some day we'll have an app for one of these.
