When it gets this hot all you want to do is stay cool. But who wants to sit inside all day? It's sunny. It's summer. And after the winter we had everyone wants to get outdoors. One of the best places to beat the heat in New Hampshire is on the water.

A report by WMUR-TV says Granite State waterways have been busy...and will stay that way through the 4th of July...and probably the week because of the great weather.

Lt. Crystal McClain of the New Hampshire Marine Patrol told WMUR the first week of July tends to be one of the busiest at Lake Winnipesaukee. She says the New Hampshire Marine Patrol will be participating in a nationwide effort called Operation Dry Water. It's a campaign that aims to reduce alcohol and drug use on the water. You can expect to see increased patrols on all New Hampshire waterways during this time. They'll also be keeping an eye out for safety issues and general rules of boating.

The Marine Patrol told WMUR that if convicted of operating a boat under the influence,  you can not only lose your privileges to operate a boat, but also the right to drive as well.

So go have fun this holiday. Get outside and enjoy the beautiful weather. Six months from now we'll probably be snowed in. Just be safe.
