I'd have seen the puritanical backlash to the Free the Nipple campaign coming were I not so distracted by all those naked breasts.

For those unaware, the Free the Nipple campaign seeks to remove the social stigma associated with women being topless and is encouraging anyone who wants to be bare their breasts to do so on August 23rd for International Go Topless Day. Being topless is legal for both men and women, but the acceptance is mostly a one way street.

Their mission as described on their Facebook page:

Our goal is to just be normal about it. We want to show everyone that the breast and nipple can be seen without all hell breaking loose, traumatizing kids, giving old men heart attacks, or causing the apocalypse.

Aerola averse Sen. Nancy Stiles is seeking to prohibit or restrict the practice, reports seacoastonline.com. Turns out town ordinances are essentially unenforceable when they contradict state law.

I guess I don't see the big deal-- I mean, we're talking nipples here. Some people have chosen to bare just about all, and while it sometimes goes against my personal sensibilities of what I think is a good choice, it isn't my choice to make. Are we going to ban small bikinis? Thongs? Men in speedos? Hmm, maybe I need to put a call in to my senator after all.
