After public outcry, the idea has been scrapped.

Despite a 5-4 vote last month supporting the original proposal, it looks like a legal bobcat hunt won't be happening in New Hampshire.

Hunting Bobcats has been outlawed in the state since 1989, but the NH Fish and Game voted to hand out 50 hunting and trapping licences due to an increase in Bobcat population.

WMUR reports that it was the widespread public opposition to the matter forced the Fish and Game to withdraw the proposal.

WMUR also publicized a statement from The Humane Society of New Hampshire said

"....it would have been nothing more than a trophy hunt. We applaud the department for withdrawing their proposal and sincerely urge them to stick with this decision in the future."
