Commuters that use the Tobin Bridge in and out of Boston need to get ready to pay a toll in both directions.

As it currently stands, if you use the Tobin Bridge, you only pay a toll on the southbound ride of the bridge (heading into Boston). However, WBZ says Mass DOT has confirmed the installation of electronic tolling for the northbound commute as well (heading out of Boston).

That means, sometime by the end of this year, drivers will have to pay a toll in both directions on the Tobin Bridge.

Commuters have been paying a toll on the southbound ride for many years. The current charge to drive into the city via the Tobin is $2.50. Once the northbound tolling system is up and running, Mass DOT says the toll will be $1.25 each way.
