If you liked all of the cold and snow last winter, you'll love what the Old Farmer's Almanac has to say about what's ahead. The rest of us might just start packing and become snowbirds

ABC.com reports that the long range forecast which the almanac does every year predicts another snowy winter with temperatures much below normal. Southern parts of the United states aren't expected to escape the rough winter either. An icy winter is expected there as well.

Before we all go off into panic mode about the upcoming winter, remember that such a seasonal forecast is extremely difficult to do with any accuracy. Slate.com is presented by Arizona State University and looked into the almanac's reliability. Here is what they wrote last year.

"The Old Farmer's Almanac, which uses a “secret formula” developed in 1792, claims an 80 percent accuracy rate, but that is almost surely misleading. Independent verifications of its forecasts by actual meteorologists over the years showed skill that was “laughable at best and abysmal at worst” with accuracy about as good as a coin toss".
