Police say a thief made off with some 500 pounds of pet food and 15 pounds of dog treats from the Animal Rescue League of New Hampshire in Bedford over the weekend.

The theft happened sometime Saturday night. Surveillance images show a male dressed in a hoodie making several passes carrying out the pet food. He cleaned out their supply of food that had been donated for the animals at the shelter.

The caring people at the Animal Rescue League asked for donations to help them through this difficult time and not surprisingly, New Hampshire stepped up to the plate.

'A day that began with sadness and shock, ended up filling our hearts over-the-top! We were confident we would replace the stolen food, but your support – the support from our community – far exceeded our wildest expectations! We are overwhelmed by the generosity of hundreds of people. You knew you could help, and you did! We will be making a plan to ensure that your donations help as many pets and families as possible. Thank you all for rallying with us, and proving that most people are good people.' - Animal Rescue League of NH's Facebook page.
