Police Say Dover Man Lied About Being Robbed
(Dover, NH) - A Dover man has been charged with lying to police about an alleged robbery last month.
39 year old John Freeman of Portland Avenue turned himself in to authorities Monday after a warrant was issued for his arrest on a charge of False Report to Law Enforcement, a Class A misdemeanor.
Police say that Freeman had earlier reported that as he walked in the downtown area on May 20th, he was approached from behind by an unknown male who said he was armed and demanded money from Freeman.
Freeman said he handed over all the cash he had and the suspect fled on foot.
After a 3-week investigation, Dover Police determined that the robbery had never occurred and issued the warrant for Freeman's arrest.
He is free on bail pending a court appearance in late August.
