Seacoastonline reports that the Portsmouth City Council has voted 8-1 to view 4.6 acres of land from behind Toyota of Portsmouth with the intention to take it over.

Assistant Mayor Jim Splaine was the only "no" vote.

The viewing will take place on September 6th and that night a public hearing will take place on the matter.

The dealership sits at the corner of the Rt. 1 Bypass and Greenleaf Ave. and has been the center of a long-time battle between owner James Boyle and Portsmouth city officials.  The disagreement stems from city sewer lines which run through the property.

Boyle says he is willing to give the city an easement but the city refuses saying they're taking over the property which they consider to be worthless.  Boyle estimates it is worth over $10 Million.
