Put on your school colors and whip out the horns because it is time to celebrate the best college mascots in New Hampshire.

We asked all of you to vote for your favorite mascot in the state last week, and the fans came out in force for their home teams.

The choices were: University of New Hampshire Wildcats, Keene State College Owls, Plymouth State University Panthers, NHTI Lynx, Manchester Community College Cougars, Nashua Community College Jaguars, Great Bay Community College Herons, Colby Sawyer College Chargers, Daniel Webster College Eagles, Dartmouth College Keggy the Keg (Unofficial), Franklin Pierce University Ravens, New England College Patty the Pilgrim, Rivier University Raiders, Southern New Hampshire University Petey Penmen and the Saint Anselm College Hawks.

Congratulations to the Southern New Hampshire University Penmen for having the most school spirit.

What is a "Penman" and why would the school choose it for a mascot you ask? Well, according to SNHU the Southern New Hampshire University “Penman” was designed to evoke memories of the spirit of the hardy New England colonials. Since the university was founded as New Hampshire College of Accounting and Commerce, the quill, or pen used by colonial accountants, became the “staff” of the character.
