Sanborn started his career as a call firefighter in Rochester in 1975 and joined the force full time two years later. He climbed the ranks in the department from lieutenant to captain to deputy chief.

in 2005, Sanborn was named Chief and also assumed the duties of Emergency Management Director for the city.

And the end of today's shift, he will relinquish his Chiefs title and become Citizen Sanborn.  He plans to spend the summer camping and travelling, including taking his family to Walt Disney World.

We wish Norm Sanborn happiness in his retirement, and join Rochester in saying "Thank You" for 42 years of service.
