Billerica, Mass selectman, George Simolaris, a professional painter says he painted the town's crosswalks with deck paint because, according to a WBZ report, he had been waiting for the town to paint the crosswalks since 2014.

Without seeking the town's permission, Simolaris painted the crosswalks green and white. Work crews spent Sunday power washing the roads to remove the paint.

'I thought that they would see the way that this would look and they would want to carry this on for the rest of the town. I just tried to use it as an example, and also how to do something for the safety of the people who are crossing because who knows when it would be painted.'

Simolaris told the Lowell Sun he expected to be arrested at some point today (Monday). Officials claim he defaced town property and could possibly face charges.
